The Program

The USPSA Michael Voigt Presidential Educational Program is a significant initiative established in memory of former USPSA President Mike Voigt, who passed away in Spring 2018. His wife, Maggie Reese Voigt, worked closely with the USPSA to create a program specifically tailored to support USPSA's Junior Members in their educational pursuits. Launched in February 2019, this program provides financial assistance for post-secondary education to eligible junior competitors aged 15 to 21, offering up to five awards per year with a maximum award of $500 per recipient.

Applicants must meet specific requirements, including being a USPSA member for at least one year without interruption, being a U.S. resident, and not having previously received the award. The selection committee, comprising USPSA employees and board members, presents their choices to the Board of Directors for final approval. Awards are determined by July 31st each year, with funds disbursed via a restricted fund managed according to GAAP and IRS regulations.

This program is funded through charitable, tax-deductible donations, which are accepted from individuals, businesses, and corporations. These contributions help ensure that Mike Voigt's legacy continues to benefit the USPSA community, while also investing in the education and future of young practical shooting enthusiasts.

By offering educational support, the USPSA Michael Voigt Presidential Educational Program encourages the growth and development of USPSA's youth, reinforcing the organization's dedication to fostering talent and nurturing the next generation of skilled competitors. The program not only demonstrates the commitment of USPSA to the future of practical shooting sports but also enhances the sense of community among its members, creating a lasting impact on the lives of young shooters and the broader USPSA community.

IN HONOR OF

The shooting community lost a legend with the passing of Michael Voigt, a renowned pro shooter and past President of the United States Practical Shooting Association (USPSA). Michael was an icon in the shooting world, having won numerous major titles during his three decades of pistol, shotgun, and rifle competition. He was a three-time IPSC World Individual Champion, a seven-time IPSC World Team Champion, and won the USPSA Multi-Gun title numerous times.

Michael was not just a talented shooter, but also a dedicated leader in the industry. He served as President of the USPSA from 2000 to 2012 and played a significant role in the development of action shooting both in the United States and internationally. He was a founding member of Team Safariland and served on the team for 25 years alongside his wife, Maggie Reese.

Michael's passion for shooting sports extended beyond his own success. He was a staunch advocate for youth shooting programs and believed in advancing the firearms industry through education and training. To honor his legacy and continue his passion, the USPSA has established the Michael Voigt Presidential Educational Program.

The program provides financial assistance to young USPSA members who wish to further their education and training in shooting sports. By supporting the future generation of shooters, the program aims to continue Michael's passion for youth shooting programs and his dedication to advancing the firearms industry.

Michael's contribution to the shooting community was immense, and his legacy will continue to inspire and influence shooters for generations to come. The USPSA Michael Voigt Presidential Educational Program is a fitting tribute to his life and accomplishments. It is an opportunity for young USPSA members to carry on Michael's passion for shooting sports and to honor his memory.
